THE WBC CONVENTION WAS CLOSED HAVING HAD ALMOST 600 ATTENDANTS
World Boxing Council President, Jose Sulaiman closed today the working sessions of the 47th WBC Annual Convention in an optimistic atmosphere due to all the agreements reached and an attendance considered much more than acceptable, having had 547 attendants that came from other countries, and a total of 592, taking local ones into account.
Among those in attendance, there were 39 promoters from 20 countries as well as 104 ring officials.
The different people in charge of the Committees made public their respective reports of their works throughout the year and all of them received a big round of applause because of the fact that the work done was truly brilliant and positive.
WBC members such as Jill Diamond (WBC Cares), Luis Escalona (Safety Committee), Italian Dr. Mario Sturla, representing the Medical Committee, and Hubert Minn, representing all ring officials, made public the achievements in the fields they are in charge of, and all the previously mentioned people were given they recognition they deserve for their work.
WORLD TITLE FIGHTS SANCTION FEES
After a presentation that left no doubts about they need to guarantee the world title fights sanction fees, it was agreed that the WBC shall be paid in the future, either cash or through a credit letter 15 days before the bouts and if that does not happen, the fights will not be sanctioned as world title fights by the World Boxing Council.
When mentioning amounts, American promoter Bobby Goodman made a remark, saying that the WBC shall not resign itself to charge less than what shall be paid and he pointed out that 3% is a reasonable amount. For minimum promotions a lower fee can be established.
THE 2011 CONVENTION WILL BE HELD IN TURKEY
After confirming that the next Convention will be held in a Mexican city (Cancun, Mexico City or Puerto Vallarta), it was approved that the meeting to be held in 2011, takes place in Antalya, Turkey. However the host city could be changed to the Turkish capital, Istanbul. The decision will be announced in some weeks.
HELP FOR THE PHILIPPINES
During today´s meeting, Eric Buhain was given the amount of $ 9, 500 USD, which was gathered by WBC members, in order to aid people who were affected by a typhoon that recently struck the Philippines. Buhain, visibly moved, promised that as soon as he arrives in his country, he will give the money to those people who handle the help center that is aiding all the affected ones.

Gabriel Peñagaricano and Robert Lenhardt were appointed, directly by President Sulaiman to try to get an interview with the President of the United States, Barak Obama, and if they do it, request that Michael Nunn, former Supermiddleweight champion, be forgiven as he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for possession of cocaine. It was said that Nunn deserves help as he is a good man. Regarding another topic, Gabriel Peñagaricano III, of Puerto Rico, in attendance in this Convention, was appointed WBC Legal Committee Chairman. It was informed that all the fighters who take part in regional title bouts, will be included in the insurance policy in a measure that is similar to the one that has been established for WBC world title fights. In the near future, champions as well as their challengers will hand in, after the bout, their bandaging to the WBC Supervisor. It was also informed that the WBC will begin a program named WBC Boxing Gyms as of this last Convention; a franchise that was approved for Mexico. There will also be energizing drinks with the support of the WBC; it was recommended that it not have any kind of substance that can be considered stimulant or drug; not only will it be for boxers, but also anyone will be able to drink it.
