By Mario Cabrera, Jr
DONYIL “THE BOXING POET” LIVINGSTON:
Ever heard of him? You will. A number 3 ranked middleweight With an amateur record of 178 wins and only 23 losses, (83 K.O). This young boxer, born in Tulsa Oklahoma who’s best known as “The Boxing Poet,” has been boxing for 10 years. At the age of 10, six months after he began boxing, Donyil captured his first National Silver Gloves Championship. Livingston began boxing in August of 1995 fighting out of Lancaster, Ca training at Durango Boxing Club. In May of 1996, he captured the National Junior Golden Gloves Championship where for the next five years he continued to uphold the title. After losing a controversial decision in the 2004 Western Trails in which he was a top favorite to make the 2004 Olympic team as a middleweight, DonYil was ready to proceed with his goals of devastating the professional world of boxing. However, things didn’t seem to go that way for DonYil. Being that he was always supported by his family and leaned to them for support and comfort, his parents wanted him to stick around for the 2008 Games and give it a shot. DonYil seem to have lost his hunger for the amateurs and was looking forward to the professional ranking. DonYil stuck around until he begin to lose interest in the fight game being that he would remain as an amateur. In May of 2007, DonYil suffered a arguable decision lost in the State Golden Gloves in California. After being competitive for several years as an amateur, DonYil took a break from the sport in which he loved. Always having the great desire of competing professionally, DonYil didn’t want to come back to the sport unless he was able to pursue his goals of competing professionally and taking the boxing world by storm. DonYil looks forward to making his professional debut competing in the Super Middleweigh Division. DonYil, cousin of Professional Boxer Andre Ward is boxing at 168lbs.,and right now walks around at 175. He is currently ranked number 3 in the Nation.
