Slipping In Boxing

By Pj De Best

Slipping in boxing is a defensive technique used to avoid getting hit without moving your body away from attacking range. It’s a slight sidewards movement of your head that’s avoids your opponents oncoming punch whilst maintaining a position close enough to your opponent in which you can counter punch with a shot of your own.

Timing is essential for both the inside and outside slip. The inside slip is when you move to the inside of your opponents jab but beware of your opponents straight when using this move.

The outside slip is when you move to the outside of your opponents jab which puts you in a good position to throw a counter punch to the head or body without being exposed to your opponents good attacking position.

Practice slipping using an Everlast Slip Ball. ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson was a pro at using this handy piece of equipment and his ability to slip punches during a fight earlier in his career added to his legendary talent.
